Last night (June 5), during the second evening of their two-night run at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Coldplay made dreams a reality by summoning the state’s most iconic export and patron saint, Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen joined Coldplay for two songs: “Working on a Dream” and “Dancing in the Dark.”

Before frontman Chris Martin invited Springsteen to the stage, Coldplay treated fans to a vast array of favorites and classics like “Paradise,” “The Scientist,” “Let Somebody Go,” “Adventure of a Lifetime,” “In My Place,” “Yellow,” “Clocks,” “Human Heart,” along with more recent releases like the BTS-assisted “My Universe” and “Higher Power.”

The energy was resoundingly high when Martin started to thank the band, the crew and the fans and asked fans to take place in an experiment. He asked them to send love in a certain direction, to their grandmothers or Ukraine – but just love. He then counted down from five as fireworks launched into the night sky. Then he said that when you make magic happen out there it happens inside the building. Next, Martin coyly shared that his hero was there and that the words “Working on a Dream” were tattooed on his arm before introducing Springsteen. The crowd cheered in disbelief as Springsteen appeared.

“Hello, New Jersey!” Springsteen shouted to the audience with a smile before saying, “Well, like Chris said, he had this song tattooed on his arm for a while, so I guess I’ve got to sing it!”

Springsteen and Coldplay performed an acoustic version of the song. Springsteen stood on a small, circular stage at the center of the stadium and Coldplay backed him. After “Working on a Dream” Springsteen and Martin handled “Dancing in the Dark,” with Martin on Piano and Springsteen on acoustic guitar; during the track, the two traded off lead vocals.

After Springsteen’s help, Coldplay closed their show with “Humankind,” “Fix You” and “Biutyful.” Coldplay are currently only have three shows left on the North American leg of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, with performances set for Philadelphia, Atlanta and Tampa, Fla. remaining. Next, they’ll head to Europe and the U.K. for the summer and then head over to Latin America through September. Find tickets to their tour here.

Springsteen also recently announced that he and the E Street Band will reunite and return for a world tour marking their first shows in six years. The spring and fall U.S. legs have yet to be announced but the run of shows in arenas across the U.K. and Europe will take place this summer.
