Acclaimed artist Chuck Sperry will be featured in a new solo exhibition that will open on Saturday in San Francisco. Chuck Sperry: Archetypes will take place at Harman Projects SF from November 7-28. The exhibition will focus on Sperry’s explorations with the archetypes of Greek mythology over the past few decades. Sperry will be releasing four brand new screen printed wood panel editions, which will appear along with archive panels, prints, and more. His latest book, Archetypes, The Sperry Art Print Archive 2009-2026, also will be available.
The opening is set for this Saturday, November. Sperry will be in attendance and participate in an artist talk with the curator of Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Josef Zimmerman from 4:00-4:30. A reception will then follow from 5:00-10:00 with Sperry in attendance.
The artist talk is free to attend, and open to the public. The reception is a ticketed event.
Sperry contributed the cover art to Relix’s new publication which explores 40 years of Widespread Panic. Sperry began working with Panic in 2008 and in the issue he notes, “They’ve always been so kind and complimentary.” Sperry then adds, “I have pushed the furthest frontier of my design and printing capabilities on each and every Widespread Panic print. The band gives the poster artist a special forum for the appreciation of rock poster art. This tribe has an appreciation for posters that borders on mania. This truth comes from on high—from the band itself—and brings the tribe a visual feast each time a new poster comes out.”
