Chuck Garvey Announces Full-Time Return to the Road with moe.
Just 11 days after rejoining his bandmates for their New Year’s Eve performance in Philadelphia, moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey has announced he will return to the band full-time for their upcoming 21-date winter 2023 tour. Garvey had a stroke in November of 2021, 13 months ago, and has since been on a long and arduous journey toward full health.
“Thank you for your well-wishes and your donations, without which my recovery would not have happened,” Garvey said in a letter to fans on the anniversary of his stroke. “This year has been a really long, difficult one for me, but a rewarding one, in that I learned what a person needs to do to achieve goals. Some are basic, everyday things like speech, and some are more about universal things that I noticed about family, friends, and community that keep us all afloat.” He went on to say, “So, thank you for your help and your community. I can’t wait to see all of you where the water falls, and the music calls.
Garvey spoke to Relix about his road to recovery, saying, “I had to relearn speaking from soup to nuts,” and described the importance music had on his journey. Read more here.
“This past year has been a trying time for moe., as a band,” moe. bassist Rob Derhak commented. “We were faced with an unthinkable decision of replacing our brother Chuck with another guitarist. Suke stepped in and stepped up. He brought his unique style, unparalleled talent, and hyper-focused work ethic into the group. Without his help, we wouldn’t have been able to survive the last year, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we are eternally grateful. Thank You Suke Cerulo.”
moe.’s winter tour is set to kick off on Jan. 19 at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y., and will make stops in cities like Portland, Maine, Nashville, Albany, N.Y., Charleston, S.C., Memphis, Tenn., and more before concluding with a two-night run at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on March 24 and 25.
