Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard, Jim Jarmusch, Susanna Hoffs and Jesse Malin Join Lineup for The Music of Patti Smith Benefit Concert
Chrissie Hynde, Glen Hansard, Jim Jarmusch, Susanna Hoffs and Jesse Malin are the latest talent to join [CEO of City Winery] Michael Dorf’s The Music of Benefit Concert honoring Patti Smith this spring, March 25, 2025, at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Smith’s soiree will feature already announced first-round musicians, including Michael Stipe, a longtime friend of the honoree, Matt Berninger (The National), Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Kronos Quartet, Ben Harper, Karen O, Kim Gordon, and Angel Olsen.
A house band led by Tony Shanahan, a member of the Patti Smith Band, will support the acts mentioned above. Shanahan will lead a cast of seasoned players, including Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stanley Jordan of the Rolling Stones.
Notably, the occasion honoring Smith coincides with the 50th anniversary of Horses, the musician’s 1975 debut LP. Dorf clarified that the material culled for the event will go beyond her first-time release and, in turn, dip into other passions, such as spoken word readings and more artistic expressions.
The forthcoming gathering will mark the 20th anniversary of the musical charity event, which has previously honored Crosby, Stills and Nash, and other cultural icons. Since its start, The Music of series has generated a net gain of $1.9 million and annual revenue of $100,000. The occasion’s charitable angle lends itself to specialty VIP packages, with money raised through the sale going back to the chosen trusts.
As an added feature of this year’s event, interested parties can purchase tickets to an exclusive rehearsal show on March 25, 2025, at New York’s City Winery.
“As we mark 20 years of the Music Of series, it’s truly an honor to celebrate Patti Smith, an artist whose influence spans generations,” said Dorf, the event founder. “This year’s rehearsal show promises to be as unforgettable as the main event, considering the extraordinary talent joining our house band.”
