Today, mandolin virtuoso, composer and singer Chris Thile announced two performances at the New York Philharmonic on Oct. 11 and Nov. 6. The Brooklyn-based musician will serve as the historic institution’s “Creative Partner” for the season as part of their “The 65th Street Sessions” and plans to celebrate music’s power to express the shared human experience.

For the performance on Oct. 11, Thile will unite Bradford Alexander Mehldau, an American jazz pianist, composer, and arranger, with Tune-Yards, an Oakland, Calif.–based music project made up of Merrill Garbus and Nate Brenner – who utilize an eclectic variety of sources and elements including loop pedals, ukulele, vocals, and lo-fi percussion, to extenuate their sound.

On Dec. 6, Thile, who famously hosted Live from Here – a variety radio show with a relaxed, tongue-in-cheek style and incredible musical guests – will employ his skills by bringing together his friends and bandmates in the Punch Brothers with folk duo Watchhouse and four-time Grammy Award-winner and ten-time nominee Sarah Jarosz.

“You will hear musicians in their respective elements, and hear those same musicians combining those elements into something new,” Thile said of the upcoming performances. “That is where the magic of living in a city like New York is centered.”

Single tickets go on sale to the public Tuesday, Sept. 13. Limited pre-sale tickets are available today with code 65THSTREET. See details and find tickets here
