Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolf Pack have announced their intent to join the National Symphony Orchestra for two consecutive nights of music, on August 28 and 29, at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Va. The new dates represent a continuation of the ensemble’s versatile approach to live performances by morphing into their musical environment and letting prowess regulate their accentuated take on beloved material.

During each individual performance by the merged ensemble, they will collectively dip into the Grateful Dead catalog of music, Weir’s solo material, and other favored covers–stretching and building on the original compositions. Stanford professor and composer Dr. Giancarlo Aquilanti will provide orchestration, and Steven Reinke will serve as the conductor.

Weir and company’s symphony approach was years in the making and initially debuted over four nights of concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., in fall 2022. In time, the group also put on shows performing alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as well as the Stanford Symphony Orchestra.

Weir & Wolf Bros featuring the Wolf Pack’s Vienna, Va. appearances arrive after recent performances South of the Border for the first-time Dead Ahead Festival in Riviera Cancún, Mexico. The occasion leaned on the Grateful Dead’s songbook, emphasizing the favored songs through collaboration and on-stage spontaneity.
