Julien’s Auctions has unveiled its Music Icon sale, comprised of over 700 pieces of rock rarities, ranging from legendary stage-played guitars strummed by Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Van Halen, Django Reinhardt, to one-of-a-kind gear, and personal items associated with The Beatles, Prince, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley and others. The listings are live now at juliensauctions.com with the two-day auction slated for  May 30 and May 31 from Hard Rock Cafe in New York City.

Highlights of the forthcoming auction include items from grunge mavens Nirvana’s 1991 recording session in Hilversum, North Holland, Netherlands: Dave Grohl session-played Remo Acousticon Quadra drum kit [with cymbals, stands, and cases], Krist Novoselic’s 1989 Warwick Dolphin Pro bass, and Kurt Cobain’s left-handed 1989 Takamine acoustic-electric rosewood guitar. 

Harkening to other Pacific Northwest music purveyors, Julien’s offers a portion of the Melvins’ tour van, driven by Cobain, who adorned the vehicle with the members of KISS. Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins’ custom seven-piece Gretsch drum kit used on 2018’s Concrete and Gold Tour, and originally signed Pearl Jam concert posters.

Flexing the style portion of the available items, Julien’s offers a wide range of pieces worn by icons such as Cher, Dolly Parton, Elton John, Jimi Hendrix, Chrissie Hynde, Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, and Janet Jackson, including Cash’s Country & Western Superstar LP cover-worn double-breasted suede coat, marked Pierre Balmain Paris.

A plethora of handwritten artifacts are also up for grabs, including Dylan’s handwritten “Lay Lady Lay” lyrics, John Lennon’s note about Edward Heath, Mick Jagger-signed photograph circa 1980s, and Hendrix’s scribed “51st Anniversary” lyrics. 

Fans of the Grateful Dead can purchase a Jerry Garcia-signed 1969 portrait. Harkening back to the era, items from Woodstock, including original Yasgur Farms Dairy New York 1969 Stationery and a signed copy of the live record Woodstock Two by Joan Baez, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash, are also up for bid.
