On Tuesday, March 26, Bob Dylan took his ever-expanding Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour to Nashville, Tenn.’s Brooklyn Bowl. The night was a typical display for the musical bard, who leaned heavily into his 39th studio album/ tour namesake, Rough and Rowdy Ways, cutting into nine songs off the set and ending the event by recognizing some special guests in the audience, regional staple Jack White and acclaimed record producer T Bone Burnett.

To start the live show, Dylan treated his Music City crowd to a piece from the archives, landing on “Watching the River Flow” before Blonde on Blonde pull “Most Likely You Go Your Way and I’ll Go Mine.” Next, Dylan, who is currently the feature of a new biopic starring Timothée Chalamet, A Complete Unknown, reminded the room, “I Contain Multitudes,” before closing out the Rough and Rowdy Ways number and moving into another tune off the 2020 set.

Dylan struck an emotive nerve with the addition of “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and ensuing renditions of “Black Rider” and “My Own Version of You.” Sticking to the script, or typical tour offering, the musician led his band through “Crossing the Rubicon” before hitting on a fitting LP, given the concert location, Nashville Skyline, on “To Be Alone With You.” “Key West (Philosopher Pirate)” marked the next delivery before fan favorite, “Gotta Serve Somebody.”

The final leg of the show saw Dylan fall into a display of “I’ve Made Up My Mind to Give Myself to You” before adding Johnny Cash’s “Big River,” a cover that entered the artist’s rotation earlier this year after a two-decade break in live plays. Staying true to the billing, Rough and Rowdy Ways cuts “Mother of Muses” and “Goodbye Jimmy Reed” filled the space before the night’s send-off, “Every Grain of Sand,” which was preceded by mentions of White and Burnett.

After last night’s show, Dylan will return to the esteemed Music City venue tonight, Wed., March 27. Tonight’s concert is sold out.
