On Saturday night, Bob Dylan took the stage with his band in Oslo. This was the opening show on his Lights of Autumn Tour, which will extend into December. Dylan and his band will route through the U.K. and Europe during these dates.

Last evening's performance at the Oslo Spektrum featured some debuts, a couple bustouts and the appearance of a new guitar player. After guitarists Bob Britt and Doug Lancio left the band in June, Joel Paterson became a steady presence over the gigs that followed, along with Julian Lage and Jad Tariq. However, both Lage and Tariq have other touring commitments in October, so there had been some speculation as to who would join The Bard. According to reports, it appears that guitarist Mike Seal took the stage with Dylan, Paterson, bassist Tony Garnier and drummer Anton Fig. Assuming it is Seal, he has been a member of the Jeff Sipe Trio and the Jeff Coffin Mu'tet, while also appearing with Jerry Douglas, John Hiatt and Sierra Hull.

What can be confirmed is that Dylan shook up his setlist. After opening with “To Be Alone With You” and “Man in the Long Black Coat,” which he did on many occasions this summer, he switched things up with a performance of the Basement Tapes’ track “Crash on the Levee (Down in the Flood)” for the first time since 10/20/05. Four songs later he revisited “Tangled Up in Blue,” which he last played on 8/28/18. It appears that this version had two additional verses.

The evening also included a couple debut covers. Dylan played Randy Newman's "Louisiana 1927" in the ninth slot. Then, five songs later, he offered his first-ever take on Guy Clark's "Dublin Blues."

All told, he played 19 tunes last night, which is three more than performed most dates this summer. This included an encore, which has been a rarity for Dylan.

On Monday, the tour will continue in Goteborg, Sweden at Scandinavium
