Billy Strings has taken to social media to help outline an inaugural event, dubbed the Ionia Freak Fair. The two-day gathering is scheduled to take place at the Ionia Fairgrounds in Ionia, Mich., and will mark a home-state return for the supposed host. On the entertainment docket for the August 28-29, 2026 gathering are a range of bluegrass titans and genre-associated acts known for crossing paths with Strings throughout his decade-plus in the public eye. 

Leading the entertainment lineup is the fast picker and torchbearer of modern bluegrass, Billy Strings, who tops a list of friends and collaborators that includes Greensky Bluegrass, Sierra Hull, Leftover Salmon, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, Lindsay Lou and Full Cord. On the event poster, “Maybe More?” was added to the list of musical guests, indicating the possibility of additional artist inclusions. 

In addition to confirmed musical participants, Ionia Freak Fair also promises Pyramid Scheme Pinball and a Metal Tent. Notably, Strings has deep roots in metal, having played in a metal band as a teenager and continuing his affinity for the genre in his current role–including lending a guitar solo at Cryptopsy’s 30th-anniversary gig last year. Strings also surprised fans by rejoining his former metalcore band, Flesh and Blood Robot, for a 2024 sit-in.
