Bill Nershi, Maggie Rose and Peter Rowan Join The Heart of Town All-Star Tribute to the Grateful Dead with Grahame Lesh & Friends

From July 31 to Aug. 2, the San Francisco Giants and Relix will join forces to present Heart of Town, a three-night psychedelic, multi-sensory concert series celebrating the music and legacy of the Grateful Dead in their original San Francisco stomping grounds. Hosted by torchbearer Grahame Lesh & Friends, the event will channel the spirit of the early Merry Prankster Acid Tests, with immersive production and a vibrant Shakedown Street-style vendor village transforming the ballpark into a modern-day psychedelic carnival. Featuring a hand-picked lineup of the Dead’s most devoted musical descendants and scene stalwarts, Heart of Town offers a living, breathing tribute to the enduring power of the jam. Tickets are on sale now.

On top of the all-star lineup unveiled last week, the supergroup will now also feature The String Cheese Incident’s storied guitarist and former Phil Lesh collaborator Bill Nershi, Southern soul singer-songwriter and vocal powerhouse Maggie Rose and Peter Rowan, the legendary International Bluegrass Museum Hall of Famer who performed alongside Jerry Garcia as a founding member of Old & In the Way. These performers bring even greater depth to the dream team booked for Pier 48 in Mission Rock, which also includes members of JGB, Trey Anastasio Band, Goose, North Mississippi All-Stars, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Dark Star Orchestra, Dawes, ALO, Grateful Shred, Sam Grisman Project, Eggy and more.

“My family has recently talked about the Grateful Dead’s legacy as a grand old tree, still growing after 60 years,” Lesh expressed with the series announcement. “Its roots are deep in the earth of America’s musical history. Its trunk is the original members of the band, and its branches and leaves are all the musical offshoots and musicians who were and continue to be inspired by the music of the Grateful Dead. The Heart of Town is a celebration of that 60-year legacy, and I am honored to host this all-star celebration at Pier 48 in Mission Rock with all of these beautiful musicians – all of these branches on the tree.”

“The Grateful Dead were birthed in San Francisco 60 years ago, and The Heart of Town is about honoring that legacy — bringing people together through music and the spirit of the city where it all began. Having Grahame leading the charge with so many incredible musicians makes it magic— it’s the next generation carrying the torch and keeping the music alive,” shared Dayglo Presents Founder Peter Shapiro.

The Heart of Town is produced by Terrapin Station Entertainment and Dayglo Presents, with Jonathan Shank and Peter Shapiro leading the team as Executive Producers alongside Producer Molly Billmyre and Musical Director Grahame Lesh. A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to support The Rex Foundation and its long-running arts and education initiatives.
