Legendary singer-songwriter and Blues Hall of Fame inductee Bettye LaVette has signed with Jay-Vee Records. The newly announced partnership comes after the acclaimed musician worked alongside the label’s co-founder, Steve Jordan, to produce her 2018 and 2020 studio albums.

Leading up to LaVette’s decision to join Jay-Vee, the label’s own, Jordan, produced the musician’s latest material, including Things Have Changed and Blackbirds. “Don’t Fall Apart on Me Tonight” earned LaVette Grammy consideration for Best Traditional R&B Performance, and the collection as a whole was nominated for Best Americana Album.

In a press release, LaVette commented on her relationship with Jordan and hinted at what the future holds. She said, “After having made two albums with Steve, I am SO happy that he wanted to make another record together, and put it out on the Jay-Vee label."

Jordan and Voss delivered a joint statement. Simply expressing, “We are honored to have Bettye LaVette on Jay-Vee Records and offer her artistic freedom.”

Jay-Vee Records, which is distributed by MRI Entertainment, was founded in collaboration with Jordan and Meegan Voss, and is home to the Grammy-nominated album Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm and the critically acclaimed Beat Odyssey 2020, by Mix Master Mike along with the music of Jordan and Voss's group The Verbs.
