BALTHVS have enlisted the talents of Eric Hilton for a new remix of “Lovin’.” Streaming now via Mixto Records, the Bogotá, Colombia-based trio’s latest offering reimagines the standout selection from their triumphant fourth studio album, Harvest, with the spellbinding downtempo expertise of Hilton, whose work as Thievery Corporation provided a formative influence on the group’s omnivorous neo-psychedelia.
“Among the myriad of BALTHVS’ influences, almost none come closer than the groundbreaking sounds of Thievery Corporation; with their early displays of stylish downtempo intertwined with global rhythms from North, South, East, and West,” the members of BALTHVS expressed in a collective statement. “To have Thievery’s own Eric Hilton remixing one of the band’s tracks is truly going full circle between the classic and the new. We hope you enjoy this stylish rendition of ‘Lovin’.’”
“It was an absolute pleasure to collaborate with BALTHVS and give their song ‘Lovin’ the ‘Trust a Thief’ treatment,” Hilton said. “Exploring their soundscape of psychedelic grooves, while adding a new perspective to such a soulful track, made this remix especially enjoyable for me.”
“Lovin’ (Eric Hilton Trust a Thief Remix)” continues a year of studio experimentation and live achievement for BALTHVS. In May, the trio showcased their electronic influence with “Year of the Snake,” which turns the hazy, gleaming interplay between guitarist and bandleader Balthazar Aguirre, bassist and vocalist Johanna Mercuriana and percussionist Santiago Lizcano into a floor-filling, uptempo anthem. That track appeared alongside the vocal funk of “Mood Swing (Principles of Rhythm)” and the dubby meditation of “Kilig” on their Flesh and Soul EP in June.
BALTHVS are currently in the throes of an expansive fall tour, with 46 dates slated across the US and Europe through Dec. 6. From Oct. 8-29, the band will join My Morning Jacket for 13 opening sets on the East Coast and Midwest leg of the is tour. Find tickets and more information at balthvs.com.
