Jeremiah Lockwood, Yula Beeri, John Bollinger, Stuart Bogie, Jordan McLean and More to Return for Brooklyn Bowl’s Annual Rosh Hashanah Musical Service
New York’s Brooklyn Bowl is gearing up to host its annual Rosh Hashanah events, set to bloom at the beloved Williamsburg venue. The High Holiday services, a revered tradition for the community, are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. E.T. The occasion promises a beautiful blend of spiritual reverence, musical celebration and self-reflection.
Rabbi Daniel Brenner will officiate the service, adding a deep authenticity and solemnity to the proceedings, as he has in past years. The musical direction will be helmed by Jeremiah Lockwood, who will lead the core Bowl Hashanah band. The band’s lineup is a testament to true diversity and talent, featuring the exceptional vocal and bass skills of Yula Beeri, the rhythmic prowess of drummer John Bollinger, the soulful saxophone of Stuart Bogie (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Arcade Fire, and Antibalas), the melodic trumpet notes of Jordan McLean (Antibalas), and the masterful organ playing of Yusuke Yamamoto.
In addition to these captivating musical performances, attendees will be treated to a spiritually infused set by Armo–comprised of members from the extended Daptone, Antibalas, and TV on the Radio musical families. As a special bonus, participants can indulge in a delectable lunch option courtesy of Blue Ribbon, offering a delightful culinary complement to the day’s festivities.
2023 marks the event’s 12th installment and will encompass a rich array of traditional elements, including Torah readings and processions under the guidance of Rabbi Brenner. Attendees can also expect insightful explanations of the religious significance of the holiday, shofar blowing, moments of meditation, and more.
While the impressive lineup and detailed program have already been unveiled, organizers have hinted at additional High Holiday services to be announced in the coming days. The anticipation is palpable as the community eagerly awaits the opportunity to unite, celebrate, and usher in the Rosh Hashanah in a unique, unforgettable fashion.
