Alabama Shakes Outline First Tour in Eight Years

Alabama Shakes has outlined its first tour in eight years. The band, who has been on a steady rise and returned since mid-December, confirmed a substantial coast-to-coast tour slated to begin on June 16 at Chicago’s The Salt Shed Outdoors. On the road, the welcome support from special guests at select stops, including Bahamas, Shannon & The Clams, El Michels Affair, The Budos Band, Sam Evian, Lee Fields, Greyhounds, Y La Bamba, Caleb Elliott, and Alanna Royale.

After night one, the band will participate in their previously announced festival appearance at the Minnesota Yacht Club in St. Paul, Minn., before proceeding to Midwest locations, including Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., on July 20. The group, which features Brittany Howard,  Heath Fogg (guitar), and Zac Cockrell (bass), will slide into the South for follow-up in Arkansas, Tennessee, and their home state, Alabama.

The four-time Grammy-winning band will pop out to Albuquerque, N.M., on Aug. 8 and proceed to Las Vegas before a series of West Coast stops: San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater (Aug. 10), Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre (Aug. 14), Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena (Aug. 16), and Bend, Ore.’s Hayden Homes Amphitheater (Aug. 17). The band will take their live show to KettleHouse Amphitheater in Bonner, Mont., followed by a night in Salt Lake City. Their final August performance is slated for the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, Mo.

September will see the group return to parts of the Midwest before the final leg of their run takes them to select East Coast cities, including Forest Hills Stadium, on Sept. 17. The next night, Alabama Shakes will arrive at Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts  Philadelphia, and a Sept. 19 gig at Washington, D.C.’s The Anthem.

Before ending their tour with a series of Lone Star State concerts, Alabama Shakes will perform at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on Sept. 23. “Last year, Heath, Zac, and I started chatting about how much fun it would be to make music together and tour again as Alabama Shakes” Howard reflected via press release. “This band and these songs have been such a source of joy for all of us. It is crazy that it has been 10 years since we released Sound and Color and eight years since we played a show. But, we didn’t want this to entirely be a look back. We wanted it to be as much about the future as the past. So we have a bunch of new music that will be released soon. We just can’t wait to experience that ‘feeling’ when we start playing those first few notes of ‘Don’t Wanna Fight’ or ‘Gimme All Your Love.’”

The general ticket on-sale will begin Friday, February 14 at 10 am local time at alabamashakes.com.
