AC/DC Announce New Album ‘POWER UP’ Featuring Classic Lineup, Share Single “Shot in the Dark”
After teasing a reunion in a cryptic social post, Australian rockers AC/DC have announced a new album, POWER UP, which marks the reunion of the band’s (surviving) classic lineup of guitarist Angus Young, vocalist Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams. The new record is set for a Nov. 13 release.
In addition to the new album, AC/DC shared a new single, titled “Shot in the Dark.” Listen to the new track below.
The new record is the first to feature AC/DC’s most well-known lineup since Black Ice (2008). Thinking back to 2016, frontman Brian Johnson was ordered by doctors to stop touring immediately due to hearing loss. The band later picked up Axl Rose mid-tour to fill in on vocals.
Not long after that tour with Rose, longtime bassist Williams also announced his departure. “It’s time for me to step out. That’s all…I’m just ready to get off the road,” he said at the time. In addition, drummer Rudd had departed from the band in 2015 due to legal issues.
In addition, guitarist and founding member (and Angus’ brother) Malcolm passed away in 2017. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Young says that the new album is a tribute to his brother. “This record is pretty much a dedication to Malcolm, my brother,” he said in the RS piece. “It’s a tribute for him like ‘Back in Black’ was a tribute to Bon Scott.”
