Mountain Jam continued its “Back to the Jam” celebration in Bethel Woods, NY, on Friday with a headlining set from Gov’t Mule, during which the festival veterans welcomed keyboardist Jeff Young, plus music from Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Andy Frasco & The U.N., Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Mandolin Orange and more.

Mule’s collaboration with Young—who’s played with Warren Haynes and the band many times in the past, along with his varied work with Jackson Browne, Steely Dan and a slew of others—came at the end of their headlining performance, when they brought out the keyboardist for a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “The Other One,” along with a “Soulshine” that also dipped into Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey.”

Prior to Mule’s set, Joe Russo led his Almost Dead in two sets of favorites from the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia catalogs and more, including staples like “Shakedown Street,” “Touch of Grey,” “Cumberland Blues,” “Candyman” and “Cats Under the Stars,” and a double-dose of Bob Dylan covers, “Shelter from the Storm” into “Tell Me, Momma.”

Below, check out the full setlists from the bands, along with fan-shot video of their performances (via Sean Roche on YouTube), and photos from throughout the day. Mountain Jam continues today with music from Phil Lesh & Friends, Willie Nelson & Family, more Mule, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, The Revivalists, Alison Krauss, Amy Helm and more.
