Steve Hackett, who earned his reputation as the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971-77, before embarking on a solo venture, turned in a performance on Wednesday, October 27, at New York’s Town Hall. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee was joined by a cast that included Roger King (keyboards), Nad Sylvan (vocals), Nick D’Virgilio (drums, percussion, vocals), Jonas Reingold (bass, vocals, guitar, bass pedals), and Rob Townsend (sax, woodwind, vocals, percussion, extra keyboards).
The night was split into two unofficial halves, the first of which lent itself to Hackett’s post-Genesis career, including songs off his 2024 release, The Circus and the Nightwhale, 2021’s Surrender of Silence, before going all the way back to his debut studio LP, Voyage of the Acolyte. After turning in a batch of originals, he moved into a packed segment of Genesis material, beginning with “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,” and concluding with “Supper’s Ready,” before an encore comprised of material from both eras.
