On Saturday, September 16, New York’s Brooklyn Bowl hosted its annual Rosh Hashanah event, comprised of a religious service and musical component featuring a variety of talented individuals, many of whom have roots at the aforementioned venue. The gathering featured a full band led by Jeremiah Lockwood, and during the morning hours, attendees were treated to various music-driven surprises fueling the energy of the special gathering.

Notably, during a meditation led by Aliza Rivka, special guests arrived to help out with the programming, including keyboardist Zach Tenorio and drummer Chris Tomson, both of whom emerged to join their Taper’s Choice bandmates Alex Bleeker and Dave Harrington onstage for a full band musical contemplation. Also included was saxophonist Will Epstein, who sat in throughout the prayer-like meditation.

Later during the event, Stuart Bogie, who was a part of the service’s live house band, sat in with Dr. Dog drummer Eric Slick during his highly-anticipated segment. During their shared stage time, they took on a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Who By Fire.” Also, during the program, Tenorio joined Armo during their segment.

After the Rosh Hashanah gathering, Epstein joined Taper’s Choice, sitting in during their set, which occurred at Union Pool in Brooklyn, N.Y. Bogie also joined during the night and then sat in with Harrington for a late-night jam at New York’s Nublu. Of note, Harrington played nine sets over a two-day block of time: Friday and Saturday.

Moreover, prior to Saturday’s gathering, during the Erev Rosh Hashanah service at the Relix Studio, Craig Greenberg joined trumpeter Jordan McLean, who was also a part of the house band, and Amir Ziv for a musical meditation. Then, McLean and Ziv joined Bogie and his trio during their set.

This weekend’s Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur services will be streamed for free on FANS.live. Taper’s Choice performs at Burlington, Vt., famed Nectar’s today. Tickets remain on sale and can be purchased here.
