Watch the Emotional Fare Thee Well Finale Two Years Ago Today

July 5, 2017

Over the last few days we’ve been recalling the gathering that was Fare Thee Well in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. Today we acknowledge the conclusion, an emotional, intense show on July 5th at Soldier Field in Chicago.

The finale was a relentless showcase of the Dead’s very best compositions like the opening “China Cat Sunflower” led by Trey Anastasio, a stellar “Estimated Prophet” and passionate “Throwing Stones.”

As the band charged to the finish line, they offered thoughtful renditions on “Cassidy,” “Althea,” a sprawling “Terrapin Station” and others before the combo encore of “Touch of Grey” and a stunning “Attics of My Life” while a montage of photos from the band’s extensive history played on the screens flanking all sides of the stage.
