Watch Bruce Springsteen Make a Surprise Appearance with Social Distortion in Asbury Park

The inaugural Sea.Hear.Now Festival came to Asbury Park, NJ, this past weekend for two days of music featuring Jack Johnson, Incubus, Ben Harper, Brandi Carlile, Lettuce, Blondie, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Nicole Atkins and more, and fans got a special surprise during one of the final sets of the weekend, when California punk-rock veterans Social Distortion welcomed out local legend Bruce Springsteen for a few tunes on Sunday night.

Lead singer Mike Ness introduced Springsteen, saying that the Boss was just “sitting around doing nothing,” so Ness invited him to play some songs. Springsteen then joined the band for “Bad Luck,” taking the opportunity to show off his lead guitar skills in the process. The collective also ran through “Misery Loves Company”—a song from Ness’ 1999 album Cheating at Solitaire that featured Springsteen on vocals—and a cover of Johnny Cash’s classic “Ring of Fire.”
