Video Premiere: Jamie McLean Band “You’re Not The Only One”

Jamie McLean has busied himself as of late on the road with with his own group, while also writing and performing with Aaron Neville, Brett Dennen and Taylor Hicks. In late February he released a new album One And Only, which was produced by former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer (it can be purchased here). They recorded in Nashville, enlisting such guest players as Sam Bush, Lucie Silvas and Jeff Coffin, drawing on a series of original compositions that McLean identifies as his strongest to date.
Today we share the official video for “You’re Not The Only One” from the new record. McLean tells Relix, “I was definitely channeling some Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers when I wrote the opening riff to ‘You’re Not The Only One.’ The riff immediately felt like home to me and once the line ‘Communication broke down’ came I was off and running. In a day and age where everyone posts their most beautiful and perfect versions of their lives, I wanted to speak to the flip side of that coin. Everyone hurts. But, you’re not alone. No matter who you are or what you do you’re going to come across some tough times in life and this song lets you know that everyone goes through tough times but it will turn around. You’re not the only one. There’s a lot of visuals in the lyrics and I love playing this one live: ‘We can turn the black to blue. It’s easy to feel so alone. Staring at the ceiling, cold and barely breathing, waiting for your time to run.’
“We had a blast filming the video in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The cobblestone streets and the waterfront docks have the perfect vibe for the video. I love the way that myself and the female lead have intertwining lives that never quite intersect until the music hits us at the concert.”
