Ghost of Paul Revere first gained renown beyond their Maine homebase in July 2015 when the group took top honors in an emerging artist contest and earned a slot at the Newport Folk Festival. Formed by childhood friends Max Davis, Sean McCarthy, and Griffin Sherry in 2011, their original stated goal was to challenge themselves by using acoustic instruments to interpret the sounds of bands such as Radiohead and Led Zeppelin. The Boston Globe has come to describe them as “Mumford & Sons meet the Avett Brothers with a twist of bluegrass.” Ghost of Paul Revere’s dynamic live performances have earned the trio a swelling fan base, which is poised to expand even further when their second full-length record, Monarch is released on October 27th via Kobalt Music Recordings.
Today we share the premiere of “Montreal” from the forthcoming album. The band tells Relix, “‘Montreal’ is a love letter to the end of a relationship. It is about the moment when two people realize they’re in love with the idea of being in love but not each other. The song grows sonically similar to how the feeling of doubt starts as a small whisper until it grows into an obsession. We wanted the song to follow the traditional paths a powerful ballad would follow. However, instead of being a grand gesture of love, it is a song about knowing when to let go.”
Ghost of Paul Revere will be on tour throughout the fall, with their current itinerary listed below the song.
