Video Premiere: Breakdown Brass “The Horseman”

January 7, 2015

Today we premiere the video for “The Horseman,” the new single from Brooklyn’s Breakdown Brass. The group is comprised of players from Brooklyn’s soul and funk scene, who have toured and recorded with Antibalas, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Monophonics,Slavic Soul Party and many others. The group’s Nadav Nirenberg (Trombone, Sousaphone, Farfisa, Percussion) tells Relix, “When I wrote ‘The Horseman’ I had been playing a ton of Balkan Brass and Afro-Funk gigs. Around 2 a.m. one night, the two styles combined in my head – by 5 a.m. the tune was finished. The unison bass/sousaphone/baritone sax line came first, and after I heard the call/response between trombones and trumpets/sax the tune wrote itself. Recording with Thomas Brenneck is always a great experience, the dude has superb ears. Dunham Records has since relocated to The Diamond Mine in LIC, and Tom is still churning out recordings with TONS of vibe.”
