Video Premiere: Rubblebucket “Party Like Your Heart Hurts” (Live)
Brooklyn-based dace-pop collective Rubblebucket—led by a main duo of singer/saxophonist Kal Traver and trumpeter Alex Toth—released their latest album, the introspective and upbeat Sun Machine, earlier this year, and today we premiere a live video of one of the record’s standout tracks, “Party Like Your Heart Hurts,” recorded during the group’s performance at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer back in October.
“‘Party Like Your Heart Hurts’ is one of the several songs I have written while riding a bike,” Traver tells Relix. “I had an image of a Gaiman-esque flirtation between a normal guy and a woman who was secretly a million years old and has seen the earth crumble, decay and spring forth again over and over and who has exploded many men’s lives (in a good way) and who isn’t really a woman—she is actually a certain façade of Earth itself, as we all are. And she takes this guy home and shows him a wild night where time stands still and they make a kind of love that crumbles his former egoic existence and he is reborn as a self-contained, loving, parent-child continuum, and at the end of it all she steps out onto the sidewalk and finds herself lonely again.”
Watch the live performance below. Rubblebucket have also just released a batch of spring tour dates, kicking off March 12 in Rochester, NY, and hitting stops in the Midwest, West Coast and Southeast, wrapping up in Richmond, VA, on April 12.
