Umphrey’s McGee Got Widespread Panic a New Pirate Flag
Last week in Niagara Falls, Widespread Panic’s pirate flag was stolen by someone who ran on stage and grabbed the flag. The band took to Facebook to explain the importance and significance of the flag and ask for it to be safely returned home, and unfortunately, it wasn’t. While Panic may not have the original, they now have a new one as the Umphrey’s McGee team gifted Panic’s crew a brand new skull & crossbones flag last night in Pittsburgh as their co-bill run came to a close.
This was yet another exciting run for both parties, as they swapped collaborations at every turn including standout performances of “Eminence Front” by Umphrey’s featuring members of Widespread Panic as well as a “Red Hot Mama” from Jones Beach with a few members of Umphrey’s sitting in with Panic. Beyond the music, the new pirate flag seems to be the most significant thing to emerge from this run.
