Throwback Thursday: Bob Weir Teams with The National at TRI Studios
Almost four years to the day Bob Weir invited some friends like Aaron Dessner, Scott and Bryan Devendorf of The National, Walter Martin, Conrad Doucette, Sam Cohen, Josh Kaufman and others out to his TRI Studios for a special show dubbed The Bridge Sessions to benefit HeadCount, the non-profit organization Weir serves as a board member for.
The evening, which saw the ensemble play two sets of Dead tunes and a cover of The National’s “Fake Empire,” served as the breeding ground for Day of the Dead, an upcoming 59-track compilation album of the Grateful Dead’s music as played by countless bands and artists from the indie, world music and alternative rock realms. Many of those who shared the stage at TRI in 2012 would also end up involved in the project, including the Dessners who curated the entire project.
