Steve Winwood will celebrate his legendary catalog with a new live release dubbed Greatest Hits Live, his first album in nearly a decade and today we premiere “Empty Pages” from that collection due out September 1. 

“I was walking in the woods near my home reflecting on past tours,” Winwood recalls. “I tripped on a stone and fell into the mud and when I returned home and was later playing a new kind of electric piano called a RMI (Rocky Mount Instruments….popular at the time), the lyrics and melody all came at once.”

Winwood wrote the song alone in 1970, with it ultimately appearing on John Barleycorn with Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood as Traffic. Listen below.
