Song Premiere: Christian Lopez “Caramel” (feat. The Milk Carton Kids’ Kenneth Pattengale)
Christian Lopez will release his forthcoming record Red Arrow on September 22 via Blaster Records and today we premiere another track from the project, “Caramel.” The song finds Lopez teaming up with Kenneth Pattengale of The Milk Carton Kids, an experience that Lopez said happened “totally by chance” after meeting in Nashville.
He tells Relix, “I wrote “Caramel” just after my last record was released. I spent all of my time on the road, and with that comes heartache. I finished this song one night in Yermo, California, the furthest I’d been away from home since I’d started touring. It’s about the heartache that comes with the search for true happiness, and the struggle bound to that discovery. But also the painful realization to let go of the past, and past persons. Getting Kenneth to play on this song was totally by chance. I approached him as a fan one night at The Basement East when he just happened to be there watching the show… it was a honkey tonk Tuesday show. I sparked up a casual conversation with him, and by the end, I mentioned how I was recording a record. I told him that I’d love him to play on this certain song, and he agreed to listen to the demo. I sent him a cell phone recording the next day, and he wrote back saying that he’d love to play on it. We recorded it 2 days later. This song needed what he gave it.”
