Song Premiere: Au Pair “Waiting For The First Time”

October 27, 2015

Au Pair is a new project that teams Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) and Django Haskins (The Old Ceremony). The two met in Chicago in 2013 where they appeared in the “Big Star’s Third” performance and they remained in touch, eventually writing and recording some songs together, singing and playing into a single microphone in the spirit of a Memphis Sun session. Today we premiere “Waiting for the first time from their debut album, One-Armed Candy Bear, which is now available for pre-order. Haskins tells Relix, “This was one of the first ones we wrote, and when we recorded it, the simple track with just acoustic guitars and vocals came together so completely that we didn’t put it through any of the psych/noise treatments, just doubled the solo bit and that was basically it. This is one of my favorites from the album.” Louris adds, “To be honest, once I write or co-write a song i quickly forget the details of the composition process….this is the case with ‘Waiting For The First Time.’ Django and I work fast…..not carelessly, not half-assedly….just fast, as we definitely gel as writers and as friends. We share very similar sensibilities, which is invaluable as any co-writers will tell you. I do recall that i had a riff and Django, as always pushed the lyrics forward…..It is a song about how one person assumes that everyone else has it figured out and he is the one left out in the cold.”
