In anticipation of his forthcoming Dave Schools-produced album, The Reservoir, alt-country singer and bandleader Kenny Roby has shared the new single “History Lesson.”

“I woke up with this chorus in my head early one morning last summer,” explains Roby. “Waking up with a brand new song in my head is rare, but it happens on occasion. I am sure I was processing it before I even knew it. I had been working on my past regrets and future worries and trying to live in the moment. Letting go and forgiving myself for past mistakes and lack of skill and compassion. And trying to not to focus too much on worries about the future. Something most humans seem to struggle with. So this song almost immediately became a sort of anthem or mantra to sing to myself. Once it got in my head it was stuck there and actually helped me immensely at the time. When I get it in my head or hear it, it reminds me to steer back to the moment and let go.”

The Reservoir is set for an Aug. 7 release on Royal Potato Family.
