Premiere: Hot Buttered Rum’s “Good One Gone” from Forthcoming Album ‘Something Beautiful’

Hot Buttered Rum is celebrating their 20 year anniversary with the release of a new album on April 3. Something Beautiful finds the “souped-up, left-coast string band” welcoming special guests to the studio, including Holly Bowling. Barry Sless and Alex Sharps. As the group recently stated, “In these unusual and uncertain times in the world right now, we will bring you what we call ‘Something Beautfiul,” new music we hope will shine a little bit of light on the path ahead and help everyone come together as we get through all of this.” Today we are premiering “Good One Gone” from the forthcoming record, which can be pre-saved on Spotify.

Nate Keefe wrote the song to reflect on the loss of close friends Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth and fan Mark Chapman. He reveals, “Last year, my friends Andy Goessling (from Railroad Earth) and Mark Chapman (from Sonoma County) both passed within the space of a few months. These were two people in the prime of their life, both with so much left to do. So sad for everyone who knows them. That juncture is right where I think music has a role to play. I wrote ‘Good One Gone’ to sing at memorials for Andy and Mark, and I hope it was a comfort to the people there. The song applies to loss everywhere, and quickly became a Hot Buttered Rum tune. The addition of Holly Bowling in the studio was a last-minute idea… I’m glad she was free and able to create such a soulful part. I like it when music is useful for a specific thing, and I hope people can use this for whatever they need.”
