Premeire: G. Love Interviews Jack Johnson for _Speakeasy_

December 20, 2017

Speakeasy, a series that offers conversations with a number of iconic musicians, has returned to public television for its third season, which features interviews with Gary Clark Jr., Jack Johnson, Nick Lowe, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason and Steve Earle. The musicians will be interviewed by a range of fellow artists, writers and more, including Jimmi Vaughan, G. Love, Jim Nelson, David Frick, David Simon and Amy Thompson.

Here, we premiere a video clip from Jack Johnson’s episode, in which the singer-songwriter-surfer is interviewed by Garrett “G. Love” Dutton. In the clip, the two begin to chat about the nature and benefits of limitations, with Johnson saying, “I think it’s our limitations that define us. Sometimes you don’t quite get to what you’re trying to do, and you fall somwhere short of that. That vulnerability – the best you can do – other people find something in that.”

Johnson also speaks about Ben Harper surprising him earlier in his career by knowing one of his songs, how musicians are the only artists who have to deal with opening acts and the phenomenon of getting insightful feedback from interviewers and fans.
