If you’re not the President of the United States, you probably didn’t want to stare directly into the eclipse, fully knowing it’d damage your vision. In case you didn’t know an eclipse was happening today, that is why everyone on your street was wearing those funny glasses. 

My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel took a more DIY approach, making his own eclipse viewer the good old fashioned way with a box and some tin foil. This works just as well as those branded glasses and allows you to enjoy some of the simpler things in this life as we watch the moon pass by the sun. I think that’s how it works, anyway.
