Let’s Be Real: Umphrey’s McGee’s “Roctopus” is the Coolest

Umphrey’s McGee’s Raw Stewage Quarter of their annual UMBowl extravaganza has produced some of the band’s most incredible jams: “Mad Love,” “Onward & Upward” and “Remind Me” just to name a few.

But it’s time to get real. “Roctopus” is the best of them all. All Hail “Roctopus.”

Not only is it expertly named, but it combines all of the best elements of a truly fantastic and show-stopping Raw Stewage tune. It has the stunt guitar of “Mad Love” and the sublime lyrical content of a “Gravity’s Real” (which is still, also, very good). The young “Roctopus” came into our lives and hearts via the April 14, 2005 “Pay the Snucka,” which included a lyrical Jimmy Stewart. That performance and a 16-minute “In the Kitchen” from April 1, 2014 got a hotel room together, had a hot, steamy night and nine months later “Roctopus” was born.

It’ll make you dance, think, feel and melt as the group expertly blends their dancey side with their fist-in-the-air rock and roll. Let’s just be real about it: “Roctopus” is the best. Just watch.

One more for good measure. Long Live “Roctopus.”
