Dierks Bentley Covers Pearl Jam’s “Alive” on _Fallon_
Pearl Jam Week continued on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night as country singer Dierks Bentley took the stage alongside Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and The Roots to cover Pearl Jam’s anthemic hit “Alive.” Telling the emotional story of a young man discovering that his father was actually his stepfather, Vedder’s original vocals on this track are unmatched, making this a tall task for Bentley. Uncomfortable from the start, Bentley doesn’t quite encapsulate the emotion, but the collaboration between The Roots and Mike McCready almost makes it worth it.
This performance comes on the heels of two stellar collaborations including The Avett Brothers and Chris Cornell performing “Footsteps” and Fleet Foxes Robin Pecknold delivering a sombering and beautiful version of “Corduroy.”
Pearl Jam Week continues tonight and tomorrow as Pearl Jam will take the stage for two performances as well as other potential hijinks with Fallon like this angelic performance of the brilliant “Balls in Your Mouth” from the last time Pearl Jam graced the late night stage.
