Summer Stars: dopapod

Despite the goofy palindrome for a name, dopapod is all business. Rising up from Boston house parties and the prestigious Berklee College of Music scene, the quartet – made up of keyboardist Eli Winderman, drummer Neal “Fro” Evans, bassist Chuck Jones and guitarist Rob Compa – have been selling out venues and winning over the ears of fans during the past few years. “The feeling you get from a good show can’t be matched,” says Winderman. “When everyone onstage is connected and playing their best, it’s an amazing feeling. The energy from a good crowd, and the genuine happiness that fans get from a good show is incredible.” dopapod’s music is a complex mixture of Primus-funk, Yes-influenced progressive rock, livetronica and as their bio states, “pre-post rage core.” The group recently released a live compilation album titled I Saw Live dopapod Evil Was I , followed it with their sophomore studio album, Drawn Onward – featuring funky electronic-influenced tracks – and are hitting the road this summer for festivals ranging from Camp Bisco and Camp Barefoot to Catskill Chill and Rootwire.

Best album for a warm summer night: James Brown, In the Jungle Groove

In the forest versus beach debate, I choose: The beach because I grew up around forests my whole life. And as much as I love them for some things, you can’t beat a nice day at the beach!
