Widespread Panic percussionist Domingo “Sunny’ Ortiz will join Sam Holt Band for a stop on their annual Remembering Mikey Houser tour next month. Every summer, Holt, who was Widespread Panic guitarist Michael Houser’s onetime guitar tech and then later filled in as the band’s lead guitarist before Jimmy Herring officially joined in 2006, pays tribute to his longtime friend with a short Southeast run. This year the outing will make stops at Asheville, NC’s The Grey Eagle as part of the AVL Sounds Fest on August 6, Charlotte, NC’s Visulite Theatre on August 7 and Chattanooga, TN’s Barrelhouse Ballroom on August 8. Ortiz is expected to sit in on the run’s final date.

Houser passed away on August 10, 2002, after battling pancreatic cancer. Widespread Panic recently concluded their first extended tour in a decade in Los Angeles, offering numerous but outs along the way.
