On Saturday, March 28, the third nationwide No Kings protest will unite Americans from coast to coast in resistance to authoritarianism. Among those planning to participate in the mass refusal of complacency is Bruce Springsteen, who has announced a performance at the demonstrations in Minneapolis.
Two months after he took the stage at First Avenue for the Defend Minneapolis benefit concert with Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Springsteen will return to the Twin Cities for another show of solidarity at the Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul. The singer-songwriter will rouse the crowd on Saturday with a public performance of “Streets of Minneapolis,” his protest anthem memorializing Alex Pretti and Renee Good and denouncing the murderous impunity of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s assault on Minnesotan communities.
“You want to try to meet the moment,” Springsteen told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “The No Kings movement is of great import right now. When you have the opportunity to sing something where the timing is essential and if you have something powerful to sing, it elevates the moment, it elevates your job to another level. And I’m always in search of that.”
The No Kings rally in Minneapolis will also see appearances from Senator Bernie Sanders and actor and activist Jane Fonda, as well as performances from Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers, among others. Learn more about the No Kings protest and find a rally near you at nokings.org.
Springsteen’s performance on Saturday will precede his performance at Minneapolis’ Target Center on March 31, setting off the North American extension of his Land of Hope and Dreams tour with the E Street Band. Learn more about the 19-show cross-country run here.
