Greensky Bluegrass Enlist Sam Bush, Lindsay Lou and Holly Bowling for 25th Anniversary and ‘XXV’ Release Concerts in Kalamazoo

In recognition of Paul Hoffman, Dave Bruzza, and Michael Bont’s fateful first concert as Greensky Bluegrass, the ensemble will retrace its steps and return to its old haunt in Kalamazoo, Mich., for two nights of music at the Wings Event Center on October 31 and November 1. Following the initial concert announcement, the band has expanded its lineup with guest additions to the two-night event, which also marks the release of their latest studio effort, XXV, due on October 31, via Big Blue Zoo Records/Thirty Tigers.

According to the band, they will welcome special guests from the bluegrass community to take part in their anniversary concerts and subsequent album release. Night one, October 31, will feature newgrass pioneer and mandolin virtuoso Sam Bush, as well as timeless vocals from GB’s longtime collaborator and Americana purveyor Lindsay Lou, who will extend her role over both nights. Filling Bush’s slot on night two is another musical ally, master of the keys, Holly Bowling.

Like the LP title’s Roman numerals imply, the studio collection coincides with the exact date of the group’s 25th anniversary and aforementioned concert series. XXV pulls in guest assistance from Bush, Lou, and Bowling, who lent her skills on two tracks, “Last Winter in the Copper Country” and “Windshield.”

“We’ve called on some dear friends to breathe a touch of new life into some classic Greensky songs for your listening pleasure,” Dobroist Anders Beck shared in line with the album announcement. “We’ve reinvented the sounds of some of our (dare I say) ‘hits’ because after a quarter century of Greensky Bluegrass, with plenty of new music on the horizon, we believe it’s worth celebrating what the five of us have created together… and we want you to have a damn good time listening to it.”
