On Friday, July 11, The Marcus King Band returned to announce Darling Blue, set to release via American Records on Sept. 26 as the group’s first record since 2018’s Carolina Confessions. For their triumphant return to the studio, the acclaimed Southern-rock torchbearer King and his longtime live ensemble drew influence from the bandleader’s deep connection to his home state of South Carolina and the range of styles they’ve mastered through the years, swirling country, psych-rock, electric blues, jam and classic R&B into an equally searing and soulful sound. Today, the ensemble has unveiled their plans to take their new music on the road with The Darling Blue Tour (Pt. 1).
The Marcus King Band’s next outing comprises 13 performances across the Midwest, Southeast and Southwest from Sept. 11 to Nov. 6. Following their newly added kickoff from Davenport, Iowa’s Capitol Theatre and 11 previously announced festival sets and supporting dates for Eric Church and Cody Johnson, King and his tried and true backing band will return to the stage on Oct. 12 in Peoria, Ill.
After rounding out their Midwest leg with an Oct. 14 appearance in Lawrence, Kansas, the group will bear south to shows in Stephenville, Texas, Fayetteville, Ark. and Starkville, Miss. before stepping into the spotlight at Memphis, Tenn.’s Graceland on Oct. 23. For the last lap of their tour’s first act, the group will move from the South Central region to the Southwest with engagements in Catoosa, Okla., Little Rock, Ark., Corpus Christi, Texas, Lubbock, Texas and finally Albuquerque, N.M.’s Revel. Throughout the run, they’ll welcome support from special guests Angel White, Laci Kaye Booth and Carter Faith.
“It truly felt like home,” King said of recording his first album with his full band in seven years. “Like my band and I were just working out songs to perform live but ended up creating a piece of recorded music for our fans to hear. Our goal is always to be a vessel and allow the music to flow through us and tap into something that’s already there in the room. But more than anything I’ve done before, this album felt like a real concerted effort to make music for myself, and for ourselves as a band—creating for the love of creating and being as honest as we possibly can. We put everything we had into making something that we love and we have faith that the audience will feel that and love it too.”
Tickets for the Marcus King Band’s new tour dates will become available through an artist presale on Wednesday, July 16 at 10 a.m. local time. General on sale will follow on Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. local time. Find tickets and more information at marcuskingofficial.com.
