On Monday, Sept. 16, Port Chester, N.Y.’s The Capitol Theatre welcomed a performance from the iconic Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Led by founding guitarist and vocalist Randy Bachman, the 50-year hard-rock outfit brought its unforgettable brand of high-voltage boogie to the Cap’s storied stage, walking the audience through its litany of chart-topping hits and the frontman’s border catalog. After kicking things off with the bawdy 1975 Head On standout “Take it Like a Man” and the looser, unfettered hard-psych of “Rock Is My Life, and This Is My Song,” Bachman led his band through three selections from his first band The Guess Who, including “No Time” and “No Sugar Tonight” from the breakout 1970 project American Woman. The title track from this classic LP followed shortly after, as did B.T.O. essentials like “Four Wheel Drive” and “Stayed Awake All Night.” A soul-stirring moment came with Randy’s treatment of his son and bandmate Tal’s mega-hit “She’s So High,” which led into a closing sequence of “Let It Ride,” “Roll on Down the Highway” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.” After the lights went down and up again, the ensemble returned for an explosive finale, beginning with a massive medley of songs well-suited for the group like AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long,” T. Rex’s “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” and Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll,” among others. Finally, the band got around to issuing its most famous track, tearing the house down with a raucous “Takin’ Care of Business.”
