Tonn3RR3 & Bikaye: It’s a Bomb
Congolese singer Bony Bikaye returns to the smart Afrotronica of his landmark 1983 collaboration with French composer Hector Zazou on It’s a Bomb (Born Bad). This time around, his collaborators are the electropercussive French trio Tonn3rr3. Bony’s songs and theatrical vocal interpretations dramatize emotional scenes from African mythology—especially “La forêt et les dieux”—as well as hard times on the street. The music offers an unusual blend of Congolese rumba and four-on-the-floor disco. And while much of the album flirts with the creepy, “Bana Disco” (Children of Disco) adopts the global consensus that “dancing makes me happy.”
