The Necks: Body

Being a fan of The Necks is a lesson in delayed gratification. Every year or so, the Australian trio—Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums, percussion, guitar) and Lloyd Swanton (acoustic bass)—drop about an hour’s worth of spontaneously improvised minimalist groovery that feels like an event (go see them!). And, their albums are often layered with that feeling, too. Such is the case with Body, which kicks into high gear with a raging 15 minutes of top-shelf stoner rock—featuring Buck’s electric guitar. The sound slab is sandwiched by slower, sparser ruminations that sound like a universe slowly emerging into existence before your very ears.
