Phish began its two-night stand in Georgia over July 4th weekend with an incredible display of versatility that would continue to be a common theme throughout the rest of its 2010 campaign. On July 3, the quartet acknowledged its ravenous fan base ( “McGrupp & the Watchful Hosemasters” was played by request), its state of mind ( “Sanity” with its lost and found verse), its unique blend of composed weirdness and improvisational magic ( “Bathtub Gin” crackles with energy; ever onward, indeed), and its enchanting and inspired pairings ( “Rock and Roll” > “Prince Caspian” > “Tweezer” > “Slave to the Traffic Light” ). One has to wonder if these live Phish gems, beautifully re-mastered by Fred Kevorkian from Jon Altschiller’s original live mixes, can continue to flow from their vaults indefinitely.
