Miriodor: Signal 9

Richard Gehr on August 2, 2017

Miriodor, meanwhile, has been Canada’s best prog-rock (or art rock, or Rock in Opposition) combo since the early ‘80s, and the quartet’s Signal 9 is a brilliantly executed and absolutely delightful playground of musical science fiction, as in the vivid “Venin” (Venom), the chamber psychedelia of “Douze Petites Asperges” (Twelve Small Asparagus) and the cybernetic special effects of “Portraitrobot.” The group hive-mind is strong and its myriad atmospheres are refreshingly clear. Even at their darkest and heaviest, a sly wit hovers around the perimeter.
