Charles Pillow Large Ensemble: Electric Miles

In addition to virtually inventing jazz-rock after its release in 1970, Miles Davis’s electrified Bitches Brew established a template for the trumpeter’s most innovative stretch of work. A haunting, sexy and arcane collection of sketches and grooves performed by once and future titans brought into the studio at the bandleader’s whim, then artistically edited by producer Teo Macero, Bitches Brew also provides most of the source material for the Charles Pillow Large Ensemble’s Electric Miles, the New York saxophonist’s expansion of these electric chamber pieces to big-band scale. Soprano saxophonist and electric-Miles regular David Liebman is the featured soloist in swank arrangements of “Black Satin” and “Yesternow” that peel the layers of Davis’ galvanizing adventures in improvised space-time
