Photo by Courtney Boyd MyersWhile many folks may have stayed inside on this chilly December evening, a crowd of lucky music fans was treated to one last pre-Christmas event at Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Bowl.
The band, Bustle In Your Hedgerow, includes keyboardist Marco Benevento and drummer Joe Russo who make up the infamous The Duo, an experimental indie group known for its jazzy rock and numerous side projects. Until now I’ve never seen their music enhanced as well by anyone except the other two members in this project, bassist Dave Dreiwitz and guitarist Scott Metzger.
The group’s name, “Bustle In Your Hedgerow,” comes from lyrics in Robert Plant and Jimmy Page’s “Stairway to Heaven,” an apt name for a group that pays righteous homage to Led Zeppelin.
Russo has never sounded or looked better, mastering Zeppelin’s accelerating tempos and delivering on a number of rock-out drum solos. But it was Metzger who gracefully stole the show with two impressive guitar solos during “Dazed and Confused” and “Celebration Day.”
Bustle In Your Hedgerow played two 90-minute sets and delivered an aural feast of Zeppelin jams. The four men transferred their inspiration and energy to the audience, getting everyone moving and finished strong with a “What Is And What Should Never Be” encore.
