The members of Aqueous know that when it comes to improv rock, what separates the good from the great is a band’s ability to use well-crafted songs as their springboard. “Composition is just as important to us, if not more so, as improvisation,” guitarist and vocalist Mike Gantzer points out. “We’re always trying to keep it interesting for ourselves and our fans. We make an effort not to restrict ourselves stylistically or create strictly within the borders of any one genre.” The Buffalo-based band has toured heavily for the better part of seven years, playing high-profile venues throughout the Northeast. Last summer included multiple sets at moe.down, paving the way for an appearance at the Summer Camp Music Festival this year. The band concentrates on making each live performance in your face, yet light-hearted – explosive guitar pyrotechnics often find their way into surprise covers of songs from artists ranging from Will Smith to Slayer. “We try to make it a two-way experience between the band and the audience,” explains Gantzer. “I think people have fun when we have fun, so we try not to take ourselves too seriously.”
