Relix Presents: A Conversation with…

From April 29th to May 1st, Relix will host three special events to celebrate New Orleans music culture with those who helped shape it. Limited attendance events will feature one-on-one Q&A’s and panels with historic members of the New Orleans music scene. To top it all off, the events will culminate in receptions highlighting food and cocktails inspired by New Orleans culinary culture and help celebrate this rich history, and walkthroughs of the exhibit by some of the photographers and artists featured in the gallery. A portion of the proceeds for these events will be donated to the New Orleans Musicians Clinic (est. 1998) which keeps music ALIVE by providing comprehensive healthcare to local culture bearers.

A Conversation with Ben Jaffe and Walter Isaacson

April 29, 2019

Ben Jaffe, Creative Director of Preservation Hall, and Walter Isaacson, writer, historian, former Chairman/CEO of CNN and Managing Editor of Time Magazine, will join us in a wide-ranging conversation about the history of New Orleans music, brass bands, Preservation Hall and more. Relix editor Dean Budnick will be on hand to facilitate audience discussion.

A Conversation with Jon Cleary

April 30, 2019

Grammy winning pianist, guitarist and band leader Jon Cleary will take us on a sonic journey through the history of New Orleans piano, using his piano as the guide. Cleary’s work pays homage to the classic Crescent City keyboard repertoire created by such icons as Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Dr. John, and James Booker – and this story-telling-by-piano session will be no different, with Relix editor Dean Budnick serving as moderator. Jon Cleary will take the stage from 2:00-4:00PM with Cha Wa to follow until 5:00PM
